HIGH CHIEF AFI GIMMICK IN THE ISLANDERS, BECOMING A GANGSTER AFTER WRESTLING AND MORE…

SIVI AFI EXPLAINS HOW WWF POLITICS CAUSED THE QUICK END TO HIS "HIGH CHIEF AFI" GIMMICK IN THE ISLANDERS, BECOMING A GANGSTER AFTER WRESTLING, AND MORE

By WorldWrestlingInsanity.com

ClubWWI.com has gone on location before, but never this far.  In a rare shoot interview, James Guttman calls all the way to the Samoan home of former WWF star Sivi Afi for a very rare 30 minute shoot interview.

Afi's time in the World Wrestling Federation featured many great tag team and singles moments.  From his early days as "Superfly" Afi and tag team with Jimmy Snuka to his later days as "High Chief" Afi in the Islanders, Sivi was a performer many fans never forgot and continue to ask about to this day.  Now he joins ClubWWI to talk about it all – the highs and lows included.  Topics include: Being The Third Islander, Today's Wrestling Product, WWF Politics, The Next Wrestling Generation of The Afi Family, Teaming With Jimmy Snuka, His Plans To Open a Wrestling School in Samoa, How His Early Life of Crime Lead To His Life As An Evangelist Today, Hitting Rock Bottom, Vince McMahon, His New Book, Temptations on The Road, Wrestling Ric Flair in Front of 70,000 people, The Meaning Behind His Name, His Time Shootfighting, Why He Doesn't Watch UFC, and More.

One topic that Afi wanted to mention was his new book, "Reign of Fire."  Available on Lulu.com under Christian books, "Reign of Fire" is his tale of falling from fame and fortune to a life of crime and eventually hitting rock bottom before accepting God.  It's an uplifting tale from the world of wrestling – when most usually aren't.  Sivi explains it to James Guttman:

"Reign of Fire is like a testimony of my life -- where I was and my rise to fame to be a star and the falling of a star to become a gangster.  So now, God has saved me and brought me back to the reality of life.  Knowing that there is good and bad and doing the good thing is the best thing in life.  So that as a book is just showing how things can get changed around in life and that God is always waiting for people to turn back.  It doesn't matter how bad things are you've done in your life.  God is a forgiving God to all of us."

Afi goes into more detail about his temptations on the road, drugs in the '80s, how he truly hit rock bottom, and his evangelical life now.  He also speaks about his positive work in Samoa dealing with troubled local youths as well as young  Americans with drug problems.  He explains how he's used wrestling to help many overcome addiction in the process.

From there, James Guttman asks about the "High Chief Afi" gimmick.  It happened one morning on WWF TV and if JG hadn't seen it, he would have thought he imagined it.  It came out of nowhere and disappeared just as fast.  What happened?  Sivi tells ClubWWI.com members the story:

"It's a lot of political things in the world of wrestling.  Sometimes it's not what you know, but who you know counts.  You know, like all kinds of business.  Maybe I wasn't too happy with the way they handled things so I left the WWF and I went to Europe and England.  So just to try the different way they wrestled there.  And I also went and did shootfighting.  Like UFC.  So I was not only doing professional wrestling but I was doing the shootfight style like UFC."

Afi goes on to talk about the differences between pro wrestling and MMA and even more.  Remember, you can hear Sivi Afi's entire 30 minute shoot on ClubWWI.com along with over 150 others including: Jesse Ventura, Bobby Lashley, Terry Funk, Jerry Lawler, Vince Russo, Lance Cade, Trevor Murdoch, Eric Bischoff, Nikita Koloff, Nunzio, Armando Estrada, Dangerous Danny Davis, Ronnie Garvin, Jim Mitchell, Chris Harris, Ahmed Johnson,Glacier,  Bobby Heenan, Terri Runnels, Kevin Nash, The Iron Sheik, Balls Mahoney, Francine, Sid Vicious, Paul Bearer, Brian Knobbs, Bruno Sammartino, Bryan Clark, Sean Mooney, Scott D'Amore, Tito Santana, Al Snow, Tod Gordon, JJ Dillon, Charlie Haas, Tom Prichard, Jacques Rougeau, Paul Roma, Jim Powers, Tammy Sytch, Too Cold Scorpio, The Honky Tonk Man, Ole Anderson, Kid Kash, Ivan Koloff, Jackie Gayda, Mr. Hughes, Scotty 2 Hotty, Dawn Marie, John Heidenreich, Jimmy Hart, Jimmy Valiant, Rick Martel, Bad News Brown, Nick Bockwinkel, Dory Funk Jr, Diamond Dallas Page, Rob Conway, Sylvain Grenier, Mike Bucci, Samu, Erik Watts, Buff Bagwell, Christian Cage, Jazz, Demolition Ax and Smash, Koko B.
