CBS Romps to Another Thursday Win
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Fast National ratings for Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005

Preseason football provided FOX a boost over its usual Thursday ratings, but CBS still won the night going away.

CBS averaged a 7.7 rating/13 share in primetime, leaving second-place FOX, 4.6/8, in the dust (because of FOX's live football broadcast, its numbers are likely to change in final nationals). ABC was third at 4.2/7, dropping NBC, 3.5/6, down to fourth place. UPN, 3.0/5, came in fifth, and The WB trailed with a 1.3/2.

The Eye network also scored an easy victory among adults 18-49 with a 3.7 rating. FOX was second at 2.6, and ABC and NBC tied for third at 2.0. UPN averaged 1.6 and The WB 0.7.

"Big Brother 6" put CBS on top at 8 p.m. with a 5.6/10. FOX's coverage of the New England Patriots-New Orleans Saints NFL game was second at 4.6/8. ABC aired the Jackie Chan movie "The Tuxedo" to finish third, ahead of "Joey," 3.8/7, and "Will & Grace," 3.6/6, on NBC. "WWE Smackdown!," 2.9/5, was fifth for UPN, beating The WB's "Smallville" rerun.

CBS surged at 9 p.m. with "CSI," 8.7/14. FOX held steady in second with its NFL coverage, and "The Tuxedo" kept ABC in third with a 4.1/7. An hour of "Scrubs" averaged 3.4/6 for NBC, edging the conclusion of "Smackdown!," which came in at 3.2/5. The WB went with an "Everwood" repeat.

At 10 p.m., CBS' "Without a Trace" accomplished the rare feat of building on its "CSI" lead-in, finishing with a 9.1/15, the night's best rating. "Primetime Live" averaged 4.7/8 for ABC, edging FOX's NFL coverage, 4.6/8, for second. NBC was fourth with an "ER" repeat, 3.3/6.
