Jimmy reviews Smackdown! for 10/7

Smackdown opening

We’re taped from somewhere with Michael Cole and Tazz announcing.

Teddy Long and Palmer Cannon come out and talk about how  SD was a success on RAW. I beg to differ. Randy Orton comes out and takes credit for leading the charge and shows footage from RAW. Piper comes out and runs him out. Piper vs. the Ortons is made for tonight.

Booker T with Sharmell vs. Orlando Jordan
Standard stuff to start. Some brawling occurs. Orlando slam and elbow gets 2. Booker shoulderblock gets 2. Orlando clotheslines Booker who does a 360 sell for 2. Orlando tries to suplex Booker from the outside in, but Sharmell trips up Orlando and Booker falls on top for the pin. ½*

We’re joined by The Man Known as Stin…Oh wait, it’s just Ken Kennedy. He’ll be special guest commentating the next match.

Sylvian vs. Hardcore Holly
Hardcore beats on Sylvian in the ring. They go to the outside and  Hardcore beats on KK. Kennedy hits Holly with a microphone in retaliation and Sylvian gets the Impaler for the pin. ¼*

Backstage, Josh Matthews interviews Roddy Piper, who gives a rambling interview.

No Mercy press conference highlights. If WWE holds a Pay Per View and nobody watches it, does it really count as a Pay Per View?

LOD 2005 with Sunny…er Christy Hemme vs. William Regal and Paul Burchill
Animal and Burchill begin, and Animal wins that one. Regal gets the tag and gets shoulder blocked down. Burchill cheap shots Animal and he works over Animal’s left arm. Animal gets a big body drop, hot tag Heidenreich who cleans house. Sidewalk Slam gets 2. Animal throws Regal out of the ring, and it’s Doomsday Device time, but MNM run out and beat down the champs. Snapshot on Christy, and the LOD save with chairs. A little too late now, you dopes. DUD.

Backstage, Steve Romero interviews Eddie Guerrero, who says holmes a bit. Could this reference an upcoming feud with Kansas City Chief Running Back, Priest Holmes over who is the father of Larry Johnson? Keep watching Smackdown.

Isn’t "Built to Last" implied with a name like Duralast?

Eddie Guerrero joins us and talks about still being friends with Batista after No Mercy. Batista comes out, and I feel compelled to point out he looks like he could play Stan in a live action American Dad movie. Batista shows footage from last week, and grabs a chair. Eddie tries to explain himself, and Batista gives it to him. He offers Eddie a chance to chair him, and Eddie refuses. Eddie acts offended, and Batista claims he always has to be looking out for himself. The segment just sort of fizzles out, with Eddie walking out.

RAW Rebound, featuring tight editing to avoid showing the phantom stunner.

Randy Orton and Cowboy Bob Orton vs. Roddy Piper and his lead pipe
Piper starts with Randy and pokes him in the eyes and such. Bob comes in and gets eye poked also. Orton dropkicks and chokes Piper. He tears off Piper’s shirt, revealing the results of  a few years of beer + chair. Cowboy goes to knee drop Piper, but Taker’s bong hits and the lights flicker. He hit’s the knee drop, and the bong and lights go again. Randy goes to investigate, and Piper cradles Bob for the pin. Afterwards, everybody’s favorite Gregorian Chant, #5, hits and the Druids bring out a casket. Undertaker appears on the Titan Tron and he triple dog dares them to look in the casket. The druids open it up and we see Cowboy and Randy’s images in the casket. The lights go out, and Undertaker’s in the ring. Ortons bail. Match was nothing, but the angle was cool.

Bobby Lashley vs. Jobber
Simon comes out before the match and reveals he has a broken hand. Lashley beats down both the Simon the jobber, winning with the Dominator. DUD.

No Mercy card rundown

Christian, JBL w/Jillian Hall, and Eddie Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, and Batista
I lose a little attention here, and pick up when Eddie and Batista are going at it. Batista press slams Eddie and he tags in JBL. Rey gets the tag and goes at it with JBL. Big Boot misses and Eddie distracts Rey allowing JBL to knock him off the apron as we go to commercial. We return with Christian giving Rey a gourd buster for 2. Heels dominate Rey behind the ref’s back. JBL gets a swinging neckbreaker, and gets a suplex for 2. Eddie comes in and gets bulldogged by Rey. Hot tag to Batista. He cleans house, and Eddie causes JBL to go sailing over the top. Spinebuster on Christian by Batista gets the pin. Eddie celebrates with the faces afterwards. JBL and Christian beat up Eddie afterwards, but Batista saves him. **

Overall Thoughts: Lackluster in every sense of the word. Maybe the post - No Mercy fallout will improve things, but it will be hard with this struggling brand.
