Review of Smackdown from tonight!

We open with the whole title situation being reviewed, no Smackdown opening.

Our hosts are Michael Cole and Tazz and we are taped from Sacramento, California.

We immediatley join JBL in the ring, (while we get a scroll by warning telling us for parental discretion in light of the attacks in London) who complains about not being champion and runs down Batista and their match is made official for the Great American Bash. Suddenly, JBL's music hits and his limo comes out. The bWo come out, mocking the Cabinet with Meanie as John Blue Lamefield, Stevie as Blue-wheat, and Nova as Bash-me. Funny stuff. JBL accuses them of being a joke, and in response Meanie challanges JBL to a match. JBL accepts, and the bWo spray paint JBL's limo. Entertaining opening segment.

Chris Benoit vs. Booker T
This match is for #1 contendership for the US Title. Lock up and hammerlockery to begin. Benoit gets his knockdown, and follows with a snap suplex. Booker fights back, but gets caught going for a kick, and Benoit dragon screws into the Sharpshooter which is quickly reversed. Booker catches Benoit and stun guns him, he then gets the arm hooked kick for 2. Booker goes to the left arm, and Benoit fights back but Booker catches him with a knee and then a high kick for 2. Booker misses the scissors kick, but Benoit reverses. Benoit ducks a clothesline, and gets the Triple German suplexes. He goes up for the headbutt, but Booker catches him, and gets a top rope superplex for 2. Benoit goes for the crossface, but Booker reverses to the armbar, which seriously hurts the already injured arm. Booker goes for a suplex, but Benoit reverses to the Crossface for the tap out. *** A little slow, but still a great match. Backstage Orlando Jordan stares at a monitor that shows Benoit and not himself, for whatever reason.

We go back to the Eddie video from last week.

Backstage Rey goes into Eddie's locker room, and we get another parental discretion scroll. Eddie informs us that Rey is to be his tag partner to win the tag titles. Rey refuses, so Eddie threatens to tell the secret. Rey then un-willingly agrees.

Elsewhere, Muhammad Hassan complains to Teddy Long about the WWE Title. So Teddy makes a match between Hassan and Taker at Great American Bash for #1 contendership for the WWE Title. Davari complains, so Teddy books him against Taker for tonight.

JBL vs. Blue Meanie
JBL boots him down and hammers an him a bit. They go outside and JBL beats him out there. Back in more of the same happens, and JBL does Meanie's dance. Meanie hammers back, but JBL gets a neckbreaker. Nova interfers, but JBL gives him the Clothesline from Hell. He puts Stevie in the ring the ring along with a chair, but that backfires as Stevie clocks JBL with it, and Meanie gets a DDT and Moonsault for 2. Damn, I thought that was it. Orlando interfers, but Batista comes out, spinebusters JBL, and puts Meanie on top for the pin. Not much of a match, but it was entertaining enough. *1/2

MNM vs. Eddie Guerero and Rey Mysterio
Standard stuff to start. Eddie comes in and gets the 3 amigos on Mercury for 2. MNM beats on him. Eddie tags Rey in  sits down at ringside. MNM beat him down a bit, but Rey fight back with headscissors into the 619 and he drops the dime, but Eddie breaks up the pin. He beats Rey up and MNM gets the Snapshot to finish. Afterwards Eddie verbally abuses Rey some more, and makes him hold the ropes open for him. I wish they'd move this angle a bit faster, even though it has only been 2 weeks. 1/2*

William Regal vs. Matt Morgan
No match, as the Mexicools come down and beat up Morgan. So long M-m-m-matt, we hardly knew ye. Regal just looks on. Mexicools than go through the same spiel as last week, and the previous week. War, mexican, yada yada yada.

Hassan tells Davari not to worry.

Davari vs. Undertaker
Davari tries to run, but Hassan sends him and to get chokeslammed and tombstoned for the pin. Well, that was that. 5 ski-masked men in army pants run in, and choke Taker out. Hassan camel clutches Taker, and the 5 men carry Davari out. Well, if this was meant to be offensive, job well done. DUD

Does anybody give Christian a chance in the next match? You have 5 seconds to answer. Ding...Ding...Ding...Ding...Ding...I'm sorry, the correct answer was "no".

Batista vs. Christian
Christian tries to get the offense in to start but Batista powers him down out of the ring, and we go to a commercial break. We return with Batista still dominating. They go to the outside, and Christian drop toe holds Batista on the steps. Christian gets a DDT while Batista is coming in the ring for 2. Christian goes to the chinlock, Batista fights back, but Christian gets a missle dropkick for 2. And he goes back back to the chinlock. Batista fights back, but Christian thumbs the eyes. Christian goes for the Unprettier, but Batista reverses to the electric chair drop. They slug it out, but Batista gets him with a front powerslam. Corner clothesline, and Batista hits a running power slam. Spinebuster and Demon Bomb finishes. JBL and Orlando attacked after, and JBL sacrifices Orlando. Eh. *1/2

Overall thoughts: Not a lot of good wrestling other than the opening match, but most of the matches were entertaining and set up some interesting angles. I'd say it was better than RAW this week. I really like Batista on Smackdown, I should note, it just fits him better. Now if we can just get Brock to come back...
