Summary of ESPN Radio host's "starting lineup on pro wrestling
By: Dave Whitaker

At the top of each hour on ESPN Radio's Gamenight, the hosts do a "starting lineup."  Basically it is a short commentary on whatever is on their mind.  Tonight, during the 9 p.m. hour, host Doug Gotlieb did his on pro wrestling.  In a nutshell, this shows why ESPN doesn't pay attention to pro wrestling very often.

He and co-host Freddy Coleman had been discussing Monday Night Football, so Gotlieb began his commentary by mentioning how MNF was mainstream, how people would gather around and watch.  He then mentioned WWE Smackdown also being on Monday nights.  Coleman said he was correct.

Anyway, he talked about how everyone knew wrestling was "fake" but still used to be very enjoyable.  He talked about how he and his older brother used to do wrestling moves on each other.  He said though wrestling now wasn't as mainstream.  He mentioned the death of Eddie Guerrero, said they offer their sympathies to his family, but talked about how wrestling wasn't as big as it used to be.  He said the deaths of JYD, Andre, Ultimate Warrior (he said the original one, I have no idea what he meant) were not covered in detail.  He said the death of Owen Hart was covered more because it was the result of a tragic accident.

Gotlieb said he didn't get the sense that kids were watching wrestling like they used to.  Coleman mentioned some case where a kid did a wrestling move on a girl and she died, so maybe parents didn't let their kids watch wrestling anymore.

I think this pretty much shows why ESPN doesn't do pro wrestling more often.
