…….

In my last month's column, I remember talking about how chicken guts were used as bait to catch catfish & trout when we fished in a lake with signs that say NO TRESPASSING. I can even think back on where we got the chickens lol. Little story if you didn't know, you wonder how we catch these chickens? Yes, we caught live chickens and no, they were not ours. We would sneak into some farmer's chicken farm very quietly at midnight. We had long sticks in our hands, crawled under the fence very quietly until we reach the barn. We would then pull out onions, cut the head of the onion and stick it to a sharp pointed stick and slowly shove the stcik by the chicken's nose to smell and in 2 seconds, the chicken would fall down with no noise and we got ourselves chicken for bait. We headed back to the camp ground for dinner and keep the chicken guts for our bait. Of course I would not recommaneded for anyone to do what we did but its the truth and looking back at it now it makes me laugh and the same time be very thankful because I believe my brother and I indeed paid our due in this great sport of pro wrestling. Today we can afford to get our fish dinner in a restrauant, but its no way as fun :-)

I want to dedicate this month's column to my aunt, Lia Maivia, on the celebration of her 80th birthday.
Auntie Lia is the wife of my late uncle, high chief Peter Maivia. I owe my career to them and after my uncle passed my auntie stepped in and ran their Hawaiian wrestling promotion. This was in a time when women were not accepted in the role of promoter. She was tough but fair but if anyone crossed her she was the real "WILD SAMOAN"! She is a role model to many and respected by all in the wrestling world. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNTIE" [Picture below]

One of my favorite parts of her birthday party was when my nephew Dwayne "The Rock" was dancing with his grandmother. [Picture below]

One of the best things in life is to find time to get together with our loved ones. I want to say that whenever you are with your loved ones, it feels so good when you first arrive until we have to say goodbye. It was so good to see family travel from all over the globe just to honor such a wonderful woman and I am so proud of my auntie Lia.

I wish I can share the many pictures that were taken from the beginning of the party to the dancing celebration to eating lots of Samoan food, and even when we all cried when we had to say goodbye. The 3 days we spent together will be treasured memories that I will have forever.

In closing, I want to say please be close to your loved ones and try to make time to visit and spend some quality time together as time goes by so fast.

Until next month stay healthy and always be thankful for every time you wake up in the morning. Our lord above has blessed you with another new day to enjoy this amazing miracle of life.

God bless     Afa "The Wild Samoan"
Next months column I will talk about my visit to the Tampa WWE developmental camp.
