TNA iMPACT Results - 7/22/05

TNA Impact Opener:
We open up with some stills from the No Surrender PPV, which saw Raven retain his NWA Heavyweight Title against Abyss, and the debut of Rhino, who was in the back pocket of Jeff Jarrett. Stage 21 at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida as Mike Tenay and Don West welcomed us to Impact.

David Young vs. Lance Hoyt
The music of David Young hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring, and he is set to go one on one with Lance Hoyt. Young attacked Hoyt on the outside and went to work with right hands before tossing him inside. Hoyt came back with a pair of clotheslines, followed by a flapjack. Abyss hit the ring out of nowhere and levelled Hoyt, and then knocked down Young and hit the modified backbreaker. Abyss then hit the Black Hole Slam on Hoyt and then James Mitchell got in the ring. He said what they have just witnessed is a foreshowing of things to come. He said Abyss is a weapon of mass destruction, and he holds the detonator. We then go to commercial.

Super X Cup Tournament Match
Samoa Joe vs. Sonjay Dutt

We are set for the start of the Super X Cup Tournament, and this will be an opening round match. X Division Champion, Christopher Daniels, joined Tenay and West for commentary. The music of Samoa Joe hit in the arena as he made his way down to the ring for this Super X Cup Match with the Original Playa for the Himalaya, Sonjay Dutt. Dutt kicked at the legs of Joe, and Joe went for a chop but Dutt came back with more kicks, and then a dropkick to the knee. Dutt continued to kick away at the leg of Joe, as we go to commercial. Back on Impact, and Joe hit a suicide dive through the ropes onto Dutt on the outside. Joe tossed Dutt back inside and covered for two. Joe hit a running knee in the corner and then drove his knee hard into the face of Dutt. Joe hit a snapmare, and then a knee drop for two. Joe locked in an abdominal stretch in the middle of the ring but Dutt fought out with elbows, and then walked into a knockdown by Joe for two. Joe hit a delayed vertical suplex for a two count and then chopped away at Dutt in the corner. Dutt came back with right hands, but Joe came back with stiff kicks to the abdomen. Joe hit a belly to back suplex for two before going back to some right hands and chops in the corner. Joe missed a corner charge, and Dutt came back with a springboard dropkick and then a springboard huricanrana. Dutt hit a baseball slide onto Joe on the outside, and then scored with a flip dive onto Joe, and landed on his feet. Dutt tossed Joe back inside, and then went up and came off with a cross body for a near fall. Dutt hit some chops in the ropes and then hit an enziguri, but walked into a snap power slam for a two count. Joe locked in a cross arm breaker on Dutt but Dutt made the ropes. Joe slapped Dutt in the corner, and then perched him on the top rope before going for the Musclebuster. Dutt blocked and dived off, but Joe caught him with a powerbomb for two. Joe then locked in an STF and then rolled Dutt into the Kokina Clutch for the submission win. Samoa Joe advances in the tournament.

The Aftermath:
Shane Douglas is ringside to get a word with Samoa Joe. Douglas asked his thoughts and who is in his sights. Joe stared at Douglas, and then walked off.

Backstage:
Backstage, Sean Waltman is shown arguing with Jerry Lynn, telling Lynn to stay out of his business. Lynn said Waltman wouldn't have a spotlight if it wasn't for Lynn all those years ago. Waltman said no one cares about that. Lynn said he was the one who fed him when he had nothing to eat. Lynn said when Waltman got called to the big leagues, he never heard from him again. Waltman said he had no time for Lynn, and to stay out of his business. Lynn said Waltman tried to hurt AJ seriously. Waltman said when he had his neck broken, no one thought about his two kids. Lynn said he tried to save him from himself in his match at No Surrender. Waltman challenged Lynn to a match at Sacrifice, and Lynn accepted. Waltman said Lynn would go down, just like he did all those years ago. Lynn said he wanted it this way, as we go to commercial.

Kip James and Monty Brown vs. Sonny Siaki and Apollo
The music of Kip James is playing in the arena, as he made his way down to the ring for the next match, teaming with the Alpha Male, Monty Brown, against the team of Apollo and Sonny Siaki. Brown and Siaki started things off and traded right hands and chops. Brown got the better of Siaki, and sent him to the buckle before chopping away at him in the corner. BG James came out to the stage to watch the match as Siaki came back with a dropkick and Brown rolled to the outside. Kip James got in the ring and walked into a drop toehold and then worked him over in the corner and Brown and Apollo brawled on the outside. Kip came back with right hands on Siaki, and then shoved the referee down. Brown got in the ring and hit the Pounce as another referee ran down to count the fall and we have out winners.
Winners - Kip James and Monty Brown

The Aftermath:
Konnan and Ron Killings hit the ring and brawled with Kip and Brown on the outside of the ring. Killings and Brown fought to the back.

Backstage:
Backstage, Simon Diamond is berating David Young and Shane Douglas comes in. Diamond told Young that close doesn't count. He said he is offering him his leadership so he is prepared mentally. Diamond said he is offering it to him right now on a silver platter. Young said he doesn't have anything to lose, and the two shook hands.

Backstage:
We are shown clips from No Surrender when referees Mark Johnson and Andrew Thomas were injured. We are then taken backstage, and the referees are complaining to Larry Zbyszko. They said it is out of control, and said they will no longer referee any matches between Kip James, Monty Brown and the 3 Live Kru.

In the arena:
The music of NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Raven, hit in the arena as he made his way to the ring. Raven sat in the corner of the ring and got on the mic. He said plans are like tyrants, the simpler they are, the easier they are to execute. He said his plan at No Surrender was simple. He said he ripped his back to shreds taking an Evenflow on a pile of Thumbtacks. He said and then Jeff Jarrett came down with his buddy Rhino, once again trying to steal his thunder. He said he has come to the conclusion that TNA is not big enough for the two of them, and one has to go. He said he is so fed up and they are going to have to end it once and for all. He said Jarrett can't run and hide from him, and there will be no escape. He said that he is a human cancer, and then the music of Jeff Jarrett hit in the arena. Jarrett made his way to the stage and said that Raven is out here complaining, and no wonder he doesn't have any friends. Jarrett said that Raven should be at the top of the list to get fired, not him. Jarrett said when he gets mad, he gets the job done. He said he has never liked Raven, and never will, and he wants his belt back. Raven said that Jarrett is at the top of his list, and when he is done with him, the only thing he will be qualified for is an autopsy. Rhino then hit the ring behind Raven as Jarrett told him to turn around. Rhino went for the Gore, but Raven moved and then went to work on Raven. Raven then brawled with Jarrett, but Rhino scored with the Gore and laid Raven out allowing Jarrett to lock in the figure four.

Super X Cup Tournament Match
AJ Styles vs. Matt Bentley


The music of Matt Bentley hit in the arena, as he made his way to the ring with Traci Brooks. West explained that he had to change his name from Michael Shane due to legal issues, and he is now using his real name. This will be another first round bout in the Super X Cup Tournament against AJ Styles. Styles and Bentley locked up and then Bentley slid to the outside for a re-think. Back inside, and Bentley went to work on AJ in the corner with right hands but Styles came back with a dropkick as we go to commercial. Back on Impact, and Bentley hit a kick to the mid section followed by a right hands. Styles fought back with right hands of his own and then hit a hip toss into a back breaker, followed by an arm drag into an arm bar. Styles hit a suplex and floated over for two before hitting a back breaker for another two count. Bentley fought back with some shots to the ribs and then Traci tripped him on the outside. AJ grabbed her by the hair and then Bentley charged at him, but Styles moved and Bentley almost hit Traci. Bentley then back dropped Styles to the apron and hit a hot shot. Styles came back and charged at Bentley in the corner, but Bentley moved and Styles hit the ring post. Bentley drove Styles into the corner shoulder first and then hit a nice dropkick for two. Bentley locked in an arm bar but Styles fought out with some chops to the chest. Bentley hit a single arm DDT for two and then choked Styles in the ropes before distracting the referee allowing Traci to get in a cheap shot and then Bentley covered for two. Bentley hit a slam and then a knee drop onto the shoulder of Styles. Bentley continued to work over the shoulder of Styles and went back to the arm bar. Styles came back with right hands and then the Pele Kick to knock Bentley down. Styles hit a series of clotheslines and then a springboard forearm shot following by a huge clothesline for two. Bentley came back with an STO for a near fall and then AJ went for a huricanrana, but Bentley reversed into a powerbomb for two. Traci distracted the referee and Bentley grabbed something but then America's Most Wanted hit the ring and James Storm laid out Bentley with a super kick and then Styles covered for the win. AJ Styles advances in the tournament.
