STING ARRIVES IN TNA WRESTLING  www.TNAWrestling.com

Sting, one of the most popular and successful pro wrestlers of the 1990s, signed a one-year contract with TNA Wrestling (SPIKE-TV, 11 p.m. ET, Saturdays). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sting was a mainstay for World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and its predecessor, the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), from the late-1980s to the absolute last match in WCW history, held in March 2001. He was the WCW World Heavyweight Champion seven times, the WCW World Tag Team Champion two times and the WCW United States Champion twice, among other accolades.

Sting had legendary feuds against Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Lex Luger, Scott Hall, Scott Steiner and the immortal Hulk Hogan.

He will make his first in-ring appearance for TNA Wrestling on Jan. 15, at the Final Resolution pay-per-view, held live in Orlando, Fla. Sting will team with Christian Cage against NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett and Monty Brown, who played in two Super Bowls during his four-year NFL career before entering pro wrestling.

“I’m very humbled that TNA called and I know this is a great way to give back,” Sting said. “This one-year commitment to TNA Wrestling is not about Sting; this is my way of saying thanks to the fans and so many others who have helped me over the years.

“I want to prove myself again, and know that I have to – to the fans and the other wrestlers. I’ve been a part of the building process before and am looking forward to the same challenge of building another company. Clearly, the possibilities are endless.”

Sting got his first break into wrestling by, ironically, Jeff Jarrett’s dad, Jerry, a longtime promoter in Tennessee.

“TNA is a great challenge; that’s something I like. I also really like the potential for this company. I know God has led me on the path I am now on, and have a high level of anticipation and expectation for 2006.”

TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter said she was “thrilled and honored” to sign Sting, clearly one of the sport’s top free agents. “Sting is one of the most loved wrestlers in the history of the sport. It will be great to see him back in a pro wrestling ring and I think the addition of Sting shows the TNA talent roster is the best mix of past, present and future stars anywhere.”

TEAM 3D vs. BUCK QUARTERMAIN & LEX LOVETT

It was a match of hunger for Team 3D as they vow to take the Tag Team Titles of the NWA, tag titles that have eluted them their entire careers. Brother Ray and Devon will be facing AMW for the titles at Final Resolution on January 15 on pay-per-view, but during this contest it was one of the most fired up moments we’ve seen Team 3D. Devon was connecting Lovett with a shoulder block as Ray threw Quartermain out of the ring and that’s when the 3D was shortly thereafter hit on Lex Lovett for the victory.

Winners: Team 3D

The 3D on Lex Lovett by Team 3D was your Morphoplex Move Of The Night.

On the microphone after the match, Brother Ray reiterated that they have been the ECW Tag Team Champions, the WCW Tag Team Champions, and the WWE Tag Team Champions combining to a total of 18 Tag Team Title reigns. Brother Ray then went on to say that he would give up all the title reigns to hold the NWA World Tag Team Titles just once because it would set Team 3D apart from all the rest… apart from even The Road Warriors. The crowd was rocking and were in huge approval of Brother Ray’s remarks as Sonjay Dutt then shared his thoughts on Sting coming to TNA as the Tribute for Sting with comments from numerous TNA stars would be occurring during this Slammin’ Saturday Night on SpikeTV!

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Backstage, the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jeff Jarrett explained that tonight was the night of the Stinger because they’re going to have a tribute for him. Scott D’Amore though kind of put a puncture into Jarrett’s interview time because he brought a letter to the boss from Jackie Gayda and he brought the letter already opened. D’Amore had mixed feelings about the whole thing but Jarrett wa quick to brush off the situation and leave the dressing room.

APOLO & HOMICIDE vs. THE NATURALS
It was the debut of Apolo and Homicde taking on The Naturals. Before this match could really get underway, Konnan with his loaded sock, took out both Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens and then down came BG James and Kip James to try and help The Naturals, but they too were taking out as the Latinos left with the last laugh tonight.

Winners: No-Contest

Chris Sabin then shared his fond memories on Sting of when he use to watch him as a fan in WCW fighting Hulk Hogan.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Backstage, Jackie Gayda left Larry Zbyszko’s office and so did Larry but Austin Aries, Alex Shelley, and Roderick Strong bombarded him. Zbyszko tried brushing them off by saying he didn’t have time but Aries spoke up and said if it was Daniels he would have time. Aries wanted a spot on the pay-per-view as did Shelley and Strong and that’s when Jerry Lynn came and took all three men to get ready for their match tonight.

BOBBY ROODE vs. RON KILLINGS
The first move was by Ron Killings and it was a roll up pin for the win, it caught Roode off guard and Killings won the match!

Winner: Ron Killings

Roode managed to convince Killings for a rematch because he claimed he wasn’t ready.

BOBBY ROODE vs. RON KILLINGS

This time, when Bobby Roode was going to use the hockey stick, Killings rolled him up again for his second victory of the night!

Winner: Ron Killings

D’Amore told Killings that that was the cheapest crap he’s ever seen so another rematch occurred, it was match number three.

BOBBY ROODE vs. RON KILLINGS

This match had more length to it, and it was Pump Handle Slam that almost got the win for Killings but the distraction by Scott D’Amore enabled Bobby Roode to hit off the Northern Lariat while Killings had his back turned. That gave the victory finally to Ron Killings.

Winner: Bobby Roode

AJ Styles was then on the forefront of the camera during the Tribute to Sting packages and he called Sting a legend, and especially liked when Sting went to his crow persona.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Samoa Joe then spoke his first words backstage with Shane Douglas, saying that he was going to end the career of Christopher Daniels at Final Resolution.

AUSTIN ARIES, ALEX SHELLEY, & RODERICK STRONG vs. “THE FALLEN ANGEL” CHRISTOPHER DANIELS, CHRIS SABIN, & “THE PHENOMENAL” AJ STYLES

Shelley and Sabin started out the match and it was a competition at first to see who could do things slick and fast and Sabin apparently won that with a nice head scissors take over. The Fallen Angel and The Phenomenal, two of the biggest rivals that have now become friends now went in together and worked as a team looking like they’ve been a team for over ten years; they took out Roderick Strong in X-Division fashion. Alex Shelley then used his European influence later in the match to weaken AJ Styles as Shelley and Strong then traded off with tags, but AJ who realized he was in no man’s land was able to get some offense in but not so much once the numbers game got into play. They were going vicious one at a time in the corner with kicks and all, but just when you think it’s over, AJ Styles comes out with the pele and tags in Christopher Daniels! Sabin and Daniels then went for a double suicide dive thru the ropes on the outside onto Aries and Strong. Back inside the ring though, Sabin was outnumbered with Shelley and Strong as they got the shocking victory over three of the top stars in the X-Division.

Winners: Austin Aries, Alex Shelley, & Roderick Strong

Christian Cage told us that Sting coming to TNA was huge and it just goes to tell you that TNA is the place to be.

COMMERCIAL BREAK

Jeff Jarrett, the NWA World Heavyweight Champion now gave us a Tribute to Sting of his own with Eric Young coming down dressed as Sting in the early years with short blonde hair, Chris Harris as the 90’s Sting and Monty Brown showing us what they think Sting will be here in modern times. Christian Cage had heard enough so he broke onto the scene and told them that they were embarrassing themselves. Christian along with Team 3D came and took out Jarrett and his group. Abyss also came down to help Jarrett, but he received the Gore from the entering Rhino into the fight. We came to a close with Christian Cage, Team 3D, and Rhino all in the ring looking on at Jarrett at the top of the stage with his fake Sting’s side by side with him.

We’ll see you all next for iMPACT! on SpikeTV as we countdown for Final Resolution on pay-per-view!
