….
TNA Wrestling returned to the P.A.L. in Wayne, NJ on November 13, 2009.
Attendance anywhere from 600 to 800.
Being a glutton for punishment, and since Daffney and Sarita were advertised to be wrestling, Ron and I headed to Wayne to catch the show.
We were quite amused at the man who was putting out signs telling people where to park. Not only did it take him over an hour to put out 3 signs but one of the signs read "FLD. CLOSED". Why is it the word field, which has 5 letters, had to be spelled FLD but the six letter word closed was spelled in its entirety??
We met Joe Velez prior to the show and headed in when the doors opened.
Ron and I were immediately greeted by Pat Kenney. I am more than thrilled to see him back with TNA as he is one of the few true good guys in the wrestling business.
Other luminaries in attendance included Josh Daniels, Billy Curgan of the Smashing Pumpkins, Eric Rosen, Xavier, Joey Image, and Gorgeous George.
The show started at 7:25 with the typical Borash crap where he hypes the crowd non stop with promises of backstage passes for the loudest craziest fans. This gets old real fast but lucky for us, he'll keep doing it after EVERY match for the rest of the evening.
The opening contest saw JAPWD Champion, Sara Del Rey, defeat Alissa Flash in a decent match. I have a feeling they were asked to hold back a little (as it may have made some of the men on the show look bad).
More wasted time by Borash.
Suicide defeated Chris Sabin.
Yet more verbal sewage by Jeremy.
Daffney defeated Hamada in a great match. We were thrilled to see Daffney appear as we didn't think she would be cleared to wrestle due to the concussion she suffered several weeks ago. Evidentially, she was cleared and the two put on a great match which saw Daffney get the pinfall with a little help from her feet on the ropes. Best match of the night thus far.
Borash hype again.
DAngelo Dinero defeated Eric Young with his running knees to the back. Good match.
Intermission seemed particularly long.
Borash is back letting us know they'll give away even more backstage passes in the second half of the show. Whooppee.
Red defeated Homicide to retain the X Division Title. Homicide let everyone know that he may have lost tonight but come Sunday, the title would be going back to Brooklyn. Does anyone want to tell Homicide that Red is from Brooklyn too? Thus, either way, the belt is pretty much going back to Brooklyn.
Blah Blah Borash.
Sarita and Taylor Wilde defeated The Beautiful People when Taylor pinned Talia, err Velvet Sky. It amazes me how Sky has made no improvement whatsoever in the ring, considering how much time she gets in it!!
Need I say.. Borash again!
In the main event, AJ Styles defeated Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe when he pinned Daniels. Phenomenal match, no pun intended.
After the match they had their typical "meet n greet" where AJ stayed in the ring for $20 photos with him and the belt while many of the faces came out to sign autographs and pose for photos. Surprisingly, NONE of the women on the show came out to meet the fans. That was a pretty big disappointment. Kudos to Red, Suicide, Dinero, Daniels, and Sabin who all came out and were great with the fans.
Overall, a fun time. The crowd popped for everything, despite the Borash crap. AJ/Joe/Daniels was match of the night followed by Daff/Hamada.
They return to the tri state area the weekend of January 8th, 2010 with shows in NY and CT. Hopefully, they can cut down on the backstage pass hype as the crowds really don't seem to need it and it makes the show look like any other indy event as opposed to the supposed #2 promotion in the country.
