The Dead Sleep Easy
Directed by Lee Demabre
Los Angeles premiere
RICARDO MONTALBAN THEATRE – 1615 Vine Street
Thursday March 27 7:00 pm
March 28 8:00 pm

Edgy new “grindhouse-style” feature from the makers of the hit cult classic:  Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter
The Dead Sleep Easy was shot entirely in Mexico, for a mere $20,000.

Features:
International wrestling superstar Ian Hodgkinson (aka El Vampiro);
Mexican Rock superstar Alex Lora;
Latin singing sensation Ana Sidel;
Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, Rambo);
British celebrity gangster and author Dave Courtney (The Krays);

The film follows a character known only as The Champ - played by Thunder Bay’s Ian Hodgkinson, who has a real-life career South of the border as a “luchador” (Mexican wrestler) named El Vampiro.

The Champ is a washed-up wrestler who once made a fatal mistake and is now stuck working for the mob. When a pollero (human smuggling) run goes disastrously wrong, The Champ is set on a collision course with powerful forces on both sides of the border as he seeks justice for a group of migrants – and redemption for himself.

Add an original Ennio Morricone-inspired score by Michael Dubue (front man of new-wave/pop/experimental band The Hilotrons), and you’ve got another action-packed ass-kick of a film.

Independent films don’t come much more indie than The Dead Sleep Easy. This is the third feature from director Lee Gordon Demarbre (Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter, the Harry Knuckles films). As with Demarbre’s previous efforts, The Dead Sleep Easy was shot on a shoestring. But this time, he was spending pesos, not dollars, with filming taking place entirely on location in Guadalajara, Mexico.

“We’re an overnight success story ten years in the making,” says Demarbre, “We’ve been working independently in for a decade, funding our own films, making and distributing them ourselves. So making a movie with someone else’s money is something new for us.”

Each screening will also feature special post-film question-and-answer sessions with Producer Robert Menzies and Ana Sidel.
