…….
Viscera debuted on this week's edition of ECW as ‘Big Daddy V’, and is the bodyguard of Matt Striker.
Also WWE introduced a new opening video and theme music for the Tuesday night weekly show ECW. The song is titled "This Is the New Sh*t" by Marilyn Manson. The song comes from the album The Golden Age of Grotesque. Due to the tragedy of the Benoit family last week, WWE decided not to play ECW's original theme of "Bodies" by Drowning Pool.

The song was replaced on the June 26 show of ECW with the song "Famous" by Puddle of Mudd.
Already received one letter on the above:
Hi Georgiann,
I just wanted to know if you had any insight as to the WWE choosing the dark, disturbing, shock rock song "the new s**t" as the new theme song.
It really stuck me as in insensitive and in poor taste ( not like it wouldn't be any other time too ) considering it looks at though Chris Benoit is responsible for the murder of his wife and son.
I'd think they'd want to distance the company from death, Satanism and generally dark and creepy stories, music and imagery at this point.
Best Wishes, Joe Jalbert

What one of your readers sent you was very inaccurate. WWE dropped “Bodies” because of the Benoit tragedy. Also Marilyn Manson is not a Satanist, but an atheist. Big difference as Satanist worships Satan and therefore believes there is a God, where atheists do not believe in either. Brandon J Gray
Don't you think some people are reading to much into the new opening what that gentleman wrote never even crossed my mind. It's a song for god sake, it's not like the WWE has come out and said we support satan or whatever they have used Marilyn Manson in the pass to for the opening of Smackdown why complain now

As Brandon said, Manson is not a satanist, and his music is, by no stretch Satanistic. Dark, yes, evil, maybe, but anything else, nah. Secondly, as far as it being disrespectful, again, as Brandon said, that is the whole reason they dropped Bodies. Are these same people going to come back and say renaming Viscera Big Daddy V is disrespectful since Benoit was a father who killed his son? This is wrestling, people, not a Congressional hearing...accept it for what it is.

hi again Georgiann,
thanks for your note. I would also like to take a second to respond to Brandon Grey's feedback and mention that I did not say manson was a satanist, I was pointing out that he uses satanic imagery, etc. in his music and the public image he maintains.
Given the Chris Benoit tragedy, this music seems like an odd choice for WWE, as they surely have had enough real life death and tragedy in the last month and should surly, at this point want to create a wide gap between the WWE and all things death and destruction, Especially In light of the medias focus on the idea that wrestling is ultra violent, and preaches the solving of problems through violence, and that that "message" may have been the launching point for how Benoit dealt with his family issues.
Finally, I agree, WWE, as hard as I try to like the brand, it just gets more and more obvious the WWE needs to step back and take an honest look at the product they are putting out and address the issues if they want to remain on top of the wrestling heap.
I really love wrestling and want the industry to survive and thrive and for WWE to be successful.
Now especially with the amount of main stream media coverage they have an chance to give themselves, and wrestling in general, a much needed image lift in the general publics eyes.
In any event this seems to be a mountain rising from a mole hill, so I think this is a good place to sign off.
thanks for you time, Joe Jalbert
