WWE fortunate to keep Heyman
January 8, 2006
BY BLACKJACK BROWN

If you were wondering who the most respected creative mind in the wrestling business is, Paul Heyman just might be the answer.

The animosity between Heyman and Stephanie McMahon has been well-documented, but even the future WWE boss could not keep Paul from re-signing with the WWE last week. In a few short months, Heyman turned Ohio Valley Wrestling from a WWE training ground to a viable TV and live-audience product.

Time after time, Heyman has laid out the blueprint for success -- and he doesn't need guys like Steve Austin and The Rock to get it done. Introduce wrestlers to the audience, let them work in the ring, and get them creatively in positions to succeed. That's it -- that's what ECW was, that's what OVW is becoming, and that's what the WWE is not. The big boys try to write a story first, then just plug guys in and hope for the best.

By keeping Heyman, the WWE not only gets to benefit from his abilities, but more important, keeps him away from rival TNA. Paul E. could have turned TNA into a legitimate threat almost overnight.
