WWE: Licensed Toys Not in N.Y. Recall

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - World Wrestling Entertainment Inc., a promoter of wrestling events and other entertainment, said Thursday none of its licensed toys are involved in a New York State recall.

The company said "Wrestle Mania" action figures included in the recall are made by an unknown manufacturer that did not ask for permission to license WWE products.

Earlier this week Governor Eliot Spitzer's administration included the "Wrestle Mania" toys, which are distributed by AA of America, in a list of three products it said had excessive lead levels in their paint.

Spitzer requested the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission issue a national recall of the toys, which also included the "Army Force" car set imported by Encore Sales of Ontario, Canada, and green and orange "Sprite Tractor Trailer" toys. The toys are made in China and sold in dollar stores.

Once further information is obtained, WWE said it plans to request the appropriate courts stop the manufacturer from creating the action figures without its consent.

Shares of World Wrestling Entertainment shed 8 cents to $14.63 in morning trading.
