WWE NO MERCY PPV RESULTS

by Dave Meltzer

Welcome to our live coverage of the WWE No Mercy PPV from the All-State Arena in Chicago.

This is a unique show because we don't even know the main event going in.

Vince is making the announcement now about the main event. The whole place is chanting Y2J. Vince then said he's not giving the people that. So much for that. He announced Randy Orton was the new champion. I'd suspect that means Orton is losing the main event, which is what is really the decision you'd expect.

There is a sign at ringside saying "Randy Orton pooped in my bag."

They did focus on the crowd chanting Y2J. However, the man who came out was HHH. After 18 minutes and Orton turning down the match, HHH insulted Vince saying he had shriveled up balls. So guess what we're opening with the main event.

Orton vs. HHH for the title.

Orton missed a tackle into the corner and HHH used a schoolboy for the three count. Lots of near falls and a good match. Crowd seems real happy with this.

Jeff Hardy & Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. Mr. Kennedy & Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch is up next in a bonus match.

Kennedy pinned London with the Lambeau plunge. Another good match.

HHH and Big Bad Dave had a Kodak moment both as champions.

Vince told HHH that the match with Umaga is for the title.

C.M. Punk vs. Big Daddy V is up next. Punk will be very over since it's in Chicago. Fans were chanting for him earlier in the show. Striker interfered in 90 seconds for the DQ. V gave Punk a series of elbow drops after the match and Punk did the bleeding from the mouth injury gimmick after.

MVP and Matt Hardy are having a pizza eating contest.

Matt ate 2 slices in the 2:00 minute limit while MVP didn't eat any full slices. Matt then threw up all over MVP's white jumpsuit. And then we got to see him throw up in slow-motion.

They did the Cyber Sunday commercial. Roddy Piper got pulled from the referee balloting in favor of JBL.

HHH vs. Umaga for the title is up now.

Umaga missed a charge into the corner and HHH used the pedigree for the pin in a short match. They are selling it like Umaga hurt HHH's ribs before the finish. Kind of a boring match really.

Rey Mystero vs. Fit Finlay is up now.

Match ended in a no contest when Finlay took a bump to the floor and sold like he was knocked out. They did a neck brace, stretcher job. Fans seemed to buy into it even though Finlay tipped everyone off by doing the quick smile and pretending to be KO'd. They were even chanting "Finlay." He got off the stretcher and destroyed Mysterio after the match was over. Match was good while it lasted. Finlay got real heat so the segment, even though obvious to most TV viewers where it was going, got over with the live crowd.

They did the Jericho's screen stuff.

Vince announced HHH vs. Orton for the title in a last man standing match as tonight's main event.

Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix for the women's title is next.

Phoenix won clean with the fisherwoman suplex. She was so moved she started crying as she got the pin. She then had to do a heel promo that didn't work at all. Bad match. Sloppy, no heat and they never seemed in synch.

Batista vs. Great Khali in the Punjabi Prison match is next.

Weird match. Bad match. They had four doors that they had one minute to get out of but never did so all four doors were shut. Khali then climbed out of the first cage and started climbing the second cage. Batista climbed the first cage, jumped to the second cage and beat Khali in a race to climb out. It could have been worse.

Show is ending with HHH vs. Orton in a last man standing match.

This was a throwback to the glory days of the company. Excellent main event with them doing everything from the steps to chairs, to choking to post shots for near nine counts. It appeared HHH was going to pedigree Orton on the announcers table but Orton reversed it and did an RKO and HHH failed to answer the bell so we had 3 title changes in one night. Jim Ross was incredible announcing and the way HHH sold the struggle of the fight was really something. Far better than most recent WWE offerings.
